Word on the street is that Apple is going to use three cameras on the back of at least one of the new iPhone models this year, and renders are starting to surface.

The newest batch shows off a handset with not only a trio of cameras on the back, but also a drastically reduced notch on the front of the handset. According to serial leaker @OnLeaks and CompareRaja, these renders are based on “100% legit prototypes”, so it’s certainly possible that this design is something Apple has tested in the past. Does it mean that this is what we’ll see out of the company later this year? Not necessarily.

As far as the details are concerned, the triple camera setup will apparently see a return of the horizontal body. There’s a flash and a microphone, which isn’t a surprise at all. The renders also reveal that Apple won’t be changing around the buttons on the side, so we’ll see the Power button by itself on the right edge, while the volume up and volume down controls will be on the left. The mute switch will be sticking around this year as well.

The notch at the top of the display is definitely smaller than what’s currently installed in the iPhone lineup. That little detail would line up with previous rumors regarding the upcoming smartphone lineup, all in an effort to remove the notch entirely at some point in the future.

As it stands right now, the rumor mill expects that Apple has yet to decide on a design for the 2019 iPhone lineup, even if the rumors of the triple camera design are certainly starting to gain traction. Indeed, not too long ago we saw another render of the triple camera setup in the iPhone XS Max successor, which included a huge rounded square design that was not great to look at. This design, however, is a lot better, especially with that smaller notch.

So, what do you think of this design? Do you prefer it over the other render of the 2019 iPhone that surfaced earlier this month? This design is definitely better than the last one, so if Apple hasn’t settled on one just yet hopefully the other has already gotten the axe.
