A new Bloomberg report details that Apple will be launching the iPhone 12 lineup this year with a smaller notch. The design of the 2020 iPhone lineup will also be inspired by the company’s recently launched iPad Pro and may feature flat-edges.

As per the report, Apple intends to launch as many as four iPhone models this year, with all of them featuring 5G connectivity. In addition to the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, Apple also plans to launch two new low-end iPhones that will replace the iPhone 11. The high-end iPhones will feature a flat stainless steel chassis instead of the curved edges as seen on the existing iPhone 11 Pro lineup. The handsets will also feature sharply rounded corners — a design aesthetic that Apple first introduced with the iPad Pro in 2018. The boxy design will be similar to the iPhone 5 and Apple also intends on using a flat cover glass on these iPhones, unlike its existing devices. Reputed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also claimed that the 2020 iPhone will feature a design similar to the iPhone 4.

Apple is also working on a smaller and cheaper HomePod that it intends to release this year. The speaker will be about half the size of the regular HomePod and will retain the same design. It has been in development for quite a few months inside Apple but has faced multiple delays. Additionally, the company is also working on “Apple Tags”, a Tile-like tracker that will let tag them to objects and then track them when they are lost. Previous rumors have referred to this device as the AirTags. The Apple Tags will come with an Apple-designed leather sleeve and a keychain so that they can be easily attached to objects. The tags are the size of a puck and have been in development for over a year.

Citing “people familiar with the launch plan,” the report says that while the new iPhones could release a few weeks later than normal due to the coronavirus pandemic, they will still launch “within the typical fall window.” Apple engineers are still expected to travel to China in May to finalise the design of the 2020 iPhones and the company has not informed any of its suppliers about any potential delay in the release of the devices.

Apart from all the devices above, Apple is also working on a refresh of the MacBook Pro, Apple TV, its budget iPad, and a new iMac. However, it is unclear if the company will announce all these products this year itself or delay the announcement of some of these products to early next year.

According to rumors, the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro model will be higher-end OLED devices with triple-lens cameras, while the 5.4 and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models will be lower-end iPhones with dual-lens cameras and a more affordable price tag. All iPhone 12 models are expected to feature OLED displays and support 5G.

iPhone 4 design is my all-time favorite iPhone design, so I hope this leak turns out to be accurate. Are you excited about the possibility of iPhone 12 sporting a iPad Pro or iPhone 4-like design with flat edges? Let me know in the comments below.
