With the first anniversary of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro approaching, the first set of pictures of what are allegedly the “iPad Pro 2” have surfaced on the internet. Sent to Apple Insider by a Chinese supplier, the photos don’t show anything particularly interesting or new, except for the model number MH1C2CD/F.

No such product exists in Apple’s lineup currently, but the naming scheme is in line with Apple’s existing model number scheme for the iPad Pro. The photo shows the iPad Pro as having a storage capacity of only 12GB thereby suggesting that this is likely a prototype meant for testing.

There have been no leaks surrounding the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2 so far, but it’s a given that we are looking at the tablet coming with a faster chipset and the same TrueTone display technology that first made its debut on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. It is also possible that Apple will equip the tablet with 3D Touch provided it is able to implement it successfully on such a large screen. Whatever the case maybe, with tablet sales slowing down, it makes little sense for Apple to launch an upgraded iPad Pro 2 with such modest changes.

It remains unclear if Apple will be launching the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2 at its event in September where it will be unveiling the new iPhones or hold a separate event for it towards the end of the year.
