Every once in a while we come across a jailbreak tweak that gets us excited. Alympus, a new jailbreak tweak that has just hit Cydia falls in that category.

iKyle, a well-known Cydia developer, and talented designer Surenix gave us a sneak peak of the tweak few days back. At that time, we thought it was a new app switcher tweak, but it more than just a replacement for the app switcher. As they put it, “Alympus is a new home for your apps, music and toggles”.

App Switcher

As we had seen in the Vine video, Alympus revamps the app switcher. You can access the app swticher by swiping up from the bottom of the screen or by double clicking the Home button. You can use the pinch gesture to zoom in or zoom out to change the layout of the app switcher from 1 card to 9 cards or just as icons.

Toggles Screen

It also breaks the Control Center into a Toggles Screen and a screen for Music playback controls. The toggles screen gives you quick access to toggles and quick launch app shorcuts such as the AirPlane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, recent contacts, torch, brightness slider, Flashlight, Calculator etc. It also includes the most recent contacts. You can access the toggles screen by swiping to the right of the app switcher. Unfortunately, you can’t customize the toggles like CCSettings. You can however rearrange the toggles by tapping and holding them.

Music Controls

You can swipe to left of the app switcher to access the Music Player, which gives you quick access to the playback controls. Double tapping on the album artwork launches the Music app. You can also switch between dark and light themes of the Music Player by three tapping on the album artwork.

Gesture Controls

To make going to the Music Player and Toggles screen less cumbersome, the developers have thoughtfully added a ‘continuous swipe’ feature that allows you to swipe up from the bottom of the screen and to the right or left to jump straight to the respective screens with one continuous swipe.

You can also use the Gesture mode to access the app switcher (which is the default), or access Control Center (iOS default) or close the currently running app.

Check out our video to get a much better idea how it works:

Alympus is available on Cydia via the BigBoss repo for $3.99. The app switcher functionality is quite awesome, but I am not a big fan of the Toggles screen and the Music Player (though it looks great) as it offers almost the same functionality as the Control Center. It would have been a killer tweak if they had added the ability to customize the toggles and quick launch app shortcuts.
