Just a day after Twitter permanently banned Alex Jones from its platform, Apple has gone ahead and banned the InfoWars app from the App Store. The company had earlier removed the entire library of Infowars podcasts from iTunes and its Podcasts app. Back then, the company decided against removing the InfoWars app from the App Store since it did not violate any hate speech related guideline.

While the Cupertino company has confirmed the removal of the app to BuzzFeed, it did not provide any reason whatsoever as to on what basis it was removed. The company also confirmed that the Infowars app will not be allowed back on the App Store. Apple likely removed the app from the App Store for providing access to defamatory, discriminatory, or racial content.

Apple was the first company to remove Infowars content from its platform after which YouTube and Facebook followed suit. However, the company’s decision to remove the podcasts from iTunes but letting the app stay on its platform actually led to the InfoWars app gaining more popularity. The app’s popularity jumped from 47th in the US App Store to 3rd in just a couple of days following the saga. Thankfully, sense has now finally prevailed, with Apple removing the Infowars app from the App Store. This app served as a way for interested users to access the content of Alex Jones including a live stream.
