Apple has silently removed the Photos web app from without making any formal announcement. Even the direct link to the web app is failing to load for iCloud users with a “There was a problem loading the application” error.

The link to the app was, apparently, removed from the homepage sometime over the last few days. Since there has been no official announcement, the exact reason behind the disappearance of the Photos app is not clear at the moment.

Apple had released its new Photos app with iOS 8 in a bid to keep the entire photo library of users, including their videos, “stored in the cloud and up-to-date” on all their devices. The feature had to be manually enabled by iPhone and iPad owners by going into Settings – iCloud and enabling the ‘iCloud Photo Library’ option.

At the launch of OS X Yosemite last year, Apple had also revealed that it would also release a native Photos app for Mac in early 2015. The company has even discontinued its iPhoto and Aperture in favor of the upcoming app.
