The popular Lock screen tweak known as Atom by Daniel Turner and Surenix has now been released to support iOS 8 and the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. For folks who have been following the jailbreak community for a long time will remember this beautiful tweak dedicated to the Lock screen.
Atom allows users to launch their favorite apps directly from the Lock screen. The tweak replaces the ‘Slide to Unlock’ text on the Lock screen with a new grabber button. Holding on it displays a circular collection of 6 of your favorite applications. To launch any one of them, you can simply drag the grabber onto the app and you will be prompted to enter either the Lock screen passcode or use Touch ID, if enabled, to unlock the device.
You might be wondering what makes Atom so special compared to other Lock screen tweaks which serve the same purpose such as BerryC8. The reason is that none of them feature the smooth animation style that Atom does. Its overall design is fairly simple and its animation style is one of the selling points of the tweak. The app icons are nicely spaced from each other with enough room to easily get to the app you are trying to launch.
What’s so interesting about the new version of Atom is that the grabber style changes dynamically depending on the Lock screen wallpaper.
Once you install Atom, you’ll find a new preferences pane in the Settings app dedicated to the tweak. The pane features minimal setting options including the ability to enable or disable the tweak and choose 6 of your favorite apps which you’d like to launch from the Lock screen.
One of the major issues which I faced while using the tweak is that half of the app icons appear off the screen when holding the grabber button. Surenix has already acknowledged that the team is looking into it to fix the issue and an update for Atom should be out in Cydia soon.
Here’s the video walkthrough of Atom on iOS 7, we’ll publish the video of the iOS 8 version shortly:
Atom is available for $2.99 in Cydia’s BigBoss repository. If you’ve owned the previous version of Atom, you can get it for $1.99 instead. What do you think of the updated version of Atom? Are you going to give it a try? Let us know in the comments section below.
