The Touch ID 2 sensor in iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPad Pro 9.7 inch was so fast, users were flying through their Lock screen whenever they click the home button just to wake their screens up.

iOS 10 takes care of this mess in two ways. Firstly, the screen wakes up automatically when you pick the iPhone up. And the only way to unlock the device is to press the home button, even if the screen is turned on.

This is already causing confusion for new users. And people are worried that such a frequent use might wear out their home buttons. I personally think that we’ll all get used to it in a while. Over the past few weeks, I’ve adapted to this new interaction and now, I just do it naturally, even on devices running iOS 9.

But there’s a counter-argument to be made, especially one for accessibility. And that’s exactly why Apple has added a new feature in the Accessibility menu that lets you unlock your iPhone (when the screen is lit, of course), simply by resting your finger on the home button.

How To Enable Rest To Unlock Feature

Step 1: Open the “Settings” app.

Step 2: Go to “General” and select “Accessibility”.

Step 3: From here, select “Home”.

Step 4: From the bottom, turn on the “Rest to Unlock” toggle.

That’s it. You should be back to the iOS 9 behavior now.
