Step by Step Guide to Downgrade from iPhone Firmware 2.0 to iPhone Firmware 1.1.4

If you have upgraded your first generation iPhone to iPhone firmware 2.0 by mistake and have SIM locked it, then don’t worry as some clever folks have figured out a way to downgrade back to iPhone firmware 1.1.4 so that you can unlock it again for SIM freedom.

All you need to do is follow the step by step guide to downgrade your iPhone from firmware 2.0 to firmware 1.1.4 after the jump.

If you have ended up locking your unlocked iPhone after upgrading to iPhone firmware 2.0 then the only option would be to downgrade to iPhone firmware 1.1.4 at least until iPhone Dev team release their Pwnage Tool 2.0  to jailbreak and unlock iPhone firmware 2.0.

You can follows these steps to downgrade from iPhone firmware 2.0 to iPhone firmware 1.1.4.

1. You need to first uninstall iTunes 7.7 and install iTunes 7.5. Use this link to download iTunes 7.5.

2. Put your iPhone in DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode. You can follow these steps to achieve this:

  • Connect your iPhone to your computer
  • Turn iPhone off
  • Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly)
  • Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
  • At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.

3. Now restore to iPhone firmware 1.1.4 using iTunes 7.5. Hold down Option and press the Restore button. If you are using Windows hold down Shift and press the Restore button.

4. You should be able to see all the older iPhone firmware files you had downloaded so far, select the firmware 1.1.4 file to restore your iPhone.

5. You might get the any of the following errors: 1011, 1013, 1015, you can ignore them. However, if you get errors such as: 1601, 1602, 1600 or anything else then try putting the iPhone into DFU mode and try again.

6. Once you have restored your iPhone with firmware 1.1.4, you can use any of the jailbreaking and unlocking method to kick your iPhone out of restore mode and unlock it.

Once you have successfully downgraded to iPhone firmware 1.1.4 and unlocked your iPhone, you could reinstall iTunes 7.7.
