iPad the driving force behind record Black Friday sales at Walmart and Target

Walmart and Target have kicked off the holiday shopping season with banner Black Friday sales that were driven by tablets including the iPad Air and the iPad mini.

Target.com saw strong traffic on its website, which was the highest traffic Target has seen in a single day. “Starting in the early morning hours of Thanksgiving Day on Target.com, through our Thanksgiving night store openings, traffic across all channels was strong,” said Jeff Jones, executive vice president and Chief Marketing Officer, Target. Big sellers singled out by Target include the iPad Air.

Walmart also reported record-breaking traffic both online and in its retail stores. The retailer announced in a press release that, on Black Friday, it processed 10 million register transactions and recorded over 400 million pageviews on its website.
