Verizon announced Apple’s iPhone 4 on its CDMA network at the media event held earlier today at the Lincoln Center in New York City.

Apple has updated its homepage to announce the arrival of iPhone 4 on Verizon’s network. The CDMA iPhone 4 will get FaceTime video calling, the high-resolution Retina display, a 5-megapixel camera, HD video recording and all the other great features of GSM iPhone 4.

Apple and Verizon issued the following statements:

“We are pleased to introduce millions of wireless users to the industry leading iPhone 4 on the nation’s most reliable network,” said Lowell McAdam, president and chief operating officer of Verizon. “This is an important step for the industry as two great companies join forces to give wireless customers one of the most important technological additions to the mobile landscape this century.”

“Verizon Wireless customers have told us they can’t wait to get their hands on iPhone 4, and we think they are going to love it,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s chief operating officer. “We have enormous respect for the company Verizon has built and the loyalty they have earned from their customers.”

The Verizon iPhone will be available for pre-orders from February 3rd to qualified Verizon Wireless customers, ahead of general availability from February 10th. The 16GB Verizon iPhone model will cost $199 while the 32GB Verizon iPhone model will cost $299 with a two-year contract.

Apple has tweaked the design of the antenna system for the CDMA network. The antenna break points have moved from top to the sides of the iPhone. It looks like the change in position is to accommodate CDMA’s different communication frequency rather than to fix the reception issues that were reported after the GSM iPhone 4 was launched.

Verizon iPhone can also be used as a mobile Hotspot so users can use iPhone’s 3G data connection from up to 5 devices. It will be interesting to see if Apple releases a new iOS software update for the GSM iPhones that enables this feature in the near future.
