If you ever wanted to just try out a wireless carrier, maybe because you’re thinking of switching but you haven’t heard altogether positive things, or for whatever other reason there might be, T-Mobile has you covered in a new move to let potential customers test out the network with a particular device.

The new method was announced during T-Mobile’s Un-carrier 5.0 event that’s taking place as of the time of this writing. During the event, it was announced that T-Mobile will allow potential customers the ability to test out their network wherever they might be for a full week, or seven days. During that time, you’ll be test driving the network more than the device, because you won’t be able to keep the test drive unit you take out of the store. Once the week trial is up you’ll have to return it, and then pick out your phone from there — if you opt to sign up with T-Mobile, of course.

At the same time, you won’t be able to just keep the phone for nothing, either. While T-Mobile’s saying they’re letting you test the network with an iPhone 5s for free, they will actually be putting a $750 hold on the card you use, just to make sure that if you don’t return it in the agreed upon time, you’ll see that money taken out of your account accordingly.

You’ll be able to sign up for the Test Drive next week from T-Mobile’s website. You’ll get your device “a few days later,” and with it unlimited talk, text, and data as long as you use the device within the United States. Also, worth noting, if you damage the device you’ll get fined $100.
