Apex 2, a tweak very near in functionality to the original Apex, has been redesigned and re-released with a flat and transparent iOS 7 aesthetic. The tweak lets you create a different kind of folder on your Home Screen to group apps in a very stylish way and, as goes with most tweaks from A3Tweaks, Apex 2 feels as if it is a native feature for iOS 7.
Each folder can hold up to 4 applications within it, and it’s a breeze to get everything set up exactly how you’d like. After you install the tweak, you’ll notice that if you tap and drag on an icon, 4 slots will appear–one on each side. These beautiful semi-transparent “+” signs will house other apps, and all you have to do is tap one to get started. You’ll see from there a list of related apps that would likely be a good fit, but you can also just tap the top to search for any specific app.
The tweak is very polished, and you can easily drag and drop these collections around your Home Screen. Not only are they easily movable, but how the apps pop up from each side changes depending on the location of the stack. Also worth noting is that these app folders can be placed within the standard iOS 7 folders, meaning you can have folders within folders.
There are a variety of options for the tweak that you can use to make it work exactly how you want. Upon opening the Apex 2 settings, you’ll first see a Getting Started guide that walks you through how the tweak works. There’s also an option that lets you decide how you want the stack of apps to appear; you can choose between SubApp Previews, Grabbers, and having no indication at all.
Additionally, there’s an option that allows you to decide how you want to be able access the sub applications, including the default swipe up and swipe down actions, as well as an option to double-tap an icon to view the apps within. Thankfully, A3Tweaks took into account that this tweak will possibly get in the way of accessing Spotlight, and included a quick fix to make Spotlight accessible by way of the status bar instead.
Finally, there are a few options for miscellaneous settings. There’s “Close on App Launch” which will close the app grouping when you launch an app within, “Aggregate Badge Count” that puts together the number of notifications for each app within a stack, and finally there’s “Allow Creation of New” which will toggle the ability to create new app groups.

Apex 2 is available on Cydia for the price of $2.99, but it’s only $0.99 if you own the original Apex.
Is this update worth it?
