We have already gotten a clear look at the 2019 iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max. Now, courtesy of @OnLeaks, we are getting our first look at the 2019 iPhone XR. While the handset sports the same design language as the existing iPhone XR, it has dual cameras at the back that’s covered by a single glass panel.
This seemingly small change is going to be one of the highlights of the 2019 iPhone lineup from Apple. The company usually has one piece of glass for the rear panel and there’s a cutout for the camera which is protected by a sapphire glass. For the 2019 iPhones, Apple is going to use a single rear glass panel which will also incorporate the dual camera setup on the iPhone XR and the triple cameras on the 2019 iPhone 11.
The leak points to the iPhone XR featuring a 7.8mm waistline that measures in at around 8.5mm at its thickest point.
If one compares the leaked renders of the iPhone 11 with the 2019 iPhone XR, it is clear that Apple went with the same design language for both phones here. The difference is likely that the 2019 iPhone XR is going to be available in a multitude of colors and feature a unibody aluminum chassis. The 2019 iPhone 11 will feature a steel chassis and will be available in a limited set of colors.
Our Take
Apple will be moving to a triple camera set up on the 2019 iPhone 11. This will involve the addition of a 12MP ultra-wide angle shooter which is found in the likes of the Galaxy S10 series, Huawei P30 Pro, and other newer Android flagships.
For the 2019 iPhone XR, while Apple will be moving to a dual-camera setup, it is unclear if the company will be introducing a telephoto shooter or an ultra-wide angle sensor. Given the popularity of ultra-wide angle shooters, my bet is that Apple will end up going with it instead of a telephoto sensor as some rumors have claimed.
