As scheduled, Apple’s streaming service — Apple TV+ — went live earlier this week. The launch library consists of eight original TV shows and one movie. Right now, Apple TV+ might not be that great of a Netflix competitor but over a period of time, it likely will. If you are already hooked onto the shows on Apple TV+ and are looking to download them for offline viewing while traveling, follow this guide.
Just like with other Apple products and services, it is pretty straightforward to download movies and TV shows from Apple TV+ for offline viewing. However, there are certain limitations that you must be aware of.
Download Movies, TV Show from Apple TV+ for Offline Viewing: Things to Know
- You can only download movies and TV shows for offline viewing on Apple TV+ while you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
- It is not possible to download TV show episodes and movies via mobile data.
- Unlike Amazon Prime or Netflix, Apple TV+ does not provide you an option to select the download resolution or quality. It automatically determines that depending on the device you are using it on.
How to Download TV Shows, Movies from Apple TV+ for Offline Viewing
Step 1: Open the TV app on your iPhone or iPad.
Step 2: From the Watch Now tab, select the TV show or movie that you’d like to download.
Step 3: You will see a Download icon beside the name of every TV show episode. Just tap on it to start your download.
You do not get an option to select the resolution or the quality of the downloaded file.
Step 4: Access your downloaded movie or TV show by going to the Library tab. You should see a Download list there. Tap on it to access all the content that’s available for offline viewing.
All downloaded movies and TV shows are categorized as per the show name and season. Depending on what you are downloading and the speed of the Wi-Fi connection, the entire process to download content offline can take some time.
Whenever your iPhone or iPad is offline and you open the TV app, you will be taken straight to the Downloaded tab and shown a list of content that’s available for offline viewing. Tap on the content you’d like to watch to start playing it.
How to Delete Downloaded Movies or TV Show in Apple TV+
You can delete any downloaded TV show or movie by simply swiping left on it when you are in ‘Downloaded’ tab.
You can download the entire season of a TV show or multiple movies without any issues in Apple TV+. For now, I am yet to hit any roadblock in terms of download. However, I can’t help but feel that Apple should have provided users with more control over the file that is being downloaded and it should have also offered an option to download content offline over mobile data.
