Documentaries are finding a new home on Apple TV+, Apple’s upcoming streaming platform for original content. And now there is a new one on the way. This one’s from Jon Favreau and BBC Studios and deals with dinosaurs.
Prehistoric Planet is the title of the new documentary series. According to Variety it will deal with the last days of the prehistoric creatures on this planet. It will rely heavily on computer generated images (CGI) to showcase the events. Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Lion King, The Jungle Book) will be teaming up with Planet Earth II producer Mike Gunton to bring thew natural-history series to life.
“Apple has greenlit “Prehistoric Planet,” a natural-history series that will recreate the last days of the dinosaurs. Jon Favreau and “Planet Earth II” producer Mike Gunton are teaming on the series for Apple’s soon-to-launch streaming service. It will be produced by BBC Studios’ highly-regarded Natural History Unit, which is based in Bristol, England.”
There is no specific launch date for the new series just yet. Apple TV+ is still slated to launch sometime in late 2019. It’s likely that Prehistoric Planet won’t make that window, however, considering there’s no indication that production has even started. That being said, it may be a while before we see this come to light.
