The Chimera jailbreak has been developed by the Electra team. It supports almost all iPhones and iPads in the market running iOS 12 – iOS 12.2. Below is everything you need to know about it.
It was the first jailbreak tool to jailbreak iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, A12 chip powered devices. Like the Unc0ver jailbreak, it is a semi-tethered jailbreak, which is similar to an untethered jailbreak, it gives the ability to reboot your iOS device on its own. On each boot, the iOS device startup sequence is unmodified and it boots into its original, non-jailbroken state. However, instead of needing to use a tool from a computer to re-jailbreak the iOS device again, like a tethered or semi-tethered cases, the user can re-jailbreak their device with the help of an app running on the iOS device such as the Electra app in case of Electra jailbreak.
On August 2019, the Electra team released an update for Chimera jailbreak, which added support for iOS 12.4, but it supports only A8-A11 devices.
One of the major differences of Chimera jailbreak and Unc0ver jailbreak is that Chimera supports Substitute, an alternative to Cydia Substrate, to run jailbreak tweaks. It comes bundled with Sileo, an alternative to Cydia, an app store for jailbreak tweaks.
iOS Versions Supported
It supports iOS 12 all the way up to iOS 12.2, and iOS 12.4. But Chimera jailbreak for iOS 12.4 only supports A8-A11 devices. It does not support iOS 12.3, iOS 12.3.1, and iOS 12.3.2.
It supports A12 devices like iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR on iOS 12 – iOS 12.1.2.
You can use Uncover jailbreak if you want to jailbreak A12 devices on iOS 12.4.
Chimera jailbreak does not support iOS 13 yet, but the Electra team had teased Chimera jailbreak for iOS 13, and iPadOS 13.3 recently. You can check our iOS 13 jailbreak page for more details on how to jailbreak the latest iOS version.

Before you try to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad, it is extremely important that you ensure no iOS 12 OTA file has been downloaded and saved on your device. Make sure to delete it from Settings -> Storage and only then proceed to jailbreak your iPhone/iPad. If an OTA file is present, your device will end up in a respring or reboot loop.
