Netflix is constantly upgrading its platform to help users discover content easily. Recently Netflix began testing human-curated ‘Collections’ feature on iOS. The Collection section will appear on your home screen and offers sections like “Stream & Scream” and “Watch in One Weekend.” The streaming giant has now added a new ‘Latest’ tab that lets you discover new content easily.
The ‘Latest’ Tab segregates content in three categories including ‘New This Week,’ ‘Coming This Week,’ and ‘Coming Next Week.’ All the three categories will be spread across different genres like drama, comedy, horror, docs, foreign, original, licensed and even kids’ content. Most importantly users will now be able to set reminders for upcoming shows in the Netflix app. All you need to do is click on ‘Remind me’ button which will serve you notification once the title is launched.
Seven years ago Netflix launched ‘Now on Netflix’ newsletter. Apparently the newsletter became popular and inspired Netflix to add the feature on its app. The ‘Latest’ tab will be available on all Netflix enabled devices and the list includes gaming consoles, Roku and Smart TV’s. It will be rolled for eligible devices over the next few weeks. However, Netflix says Smart TV’s will receive the feature “in the coming months.”
Our Take
Netflix is battling a decline in subscribers and seems to be finally giving way to cost-cutting. In order to increase the subscriber base, Netflix launched a mobile-only plan in India at less than $3/month. Furthermore, the streaming giant is working on sealing more exclusives and improving its Original programming.
In July Netflix reported a fall of 126,000 subscribers in the domestic market while the global growth too was a shade below expectation. The video streaming space is witnessing the entry of major companies like AT&T and Disney. Hopefully the new features and fresh content will help Netflix turn the tide.
