Android was successfully ported to the iPhone earlier in the year.

If you want to checkout Android then you can now install it on a jailbroken iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G thanks to a jailbreak app called Bootlace available on the Cydia App Store.

Bootlace makes it quite easy to install Android OS 2.2.1 Froyo on the iPhone.

Here is a brief description of Bootlace and OpeniBoot:

Bootlace is an iOS application which allows the installation of iDroid and OpeniBoot as well as configuration of OpeniBoot settings. Also supported is QuickBoot – a way of directly booting into the selected OS without modifying normal OpeniBoot settings.

Bootlace comes with the following features:

• Installation and configuration of OpeniBoot
• Installation and removal of iDriod
• Upgrading of iDroid and OpeniBoot
• QuickBoot directly into other OSes
• OpeniBoot configuration
• NVRAM back and restore

Here are some of the requirements for it to work:

• As mentioned earlier, it works only on a jailbroken iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G.
• It is compatible with iPhone OS 3.1.2 to iOS 4.1.
• It won’t work if you have jailbroken your iPhone using jailbreak tools like Spirit and JailbreakMe.
• There are some compatibility issues reported with Bootlace and Backgrounder so disable it to use Bootlace.

Please note that hacking your iPhone may void its warranty so proceed with caution and at your own risk. Please don’t forget to backup your iPhone before you proceed. You can refer to this post for instructions on how to backup your iPhone.

You can follow these steps to install Android OS on your jailbroken iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G:

• Launch Cydia.
• Tap on Manage tab at the bottom.
• Then tap on Sources.
• Tap on the "Edit" button on the top right corner.
• Tap on the "Add" button to add the repository.
• Tapping on add will open a pop-up where you need to enter the URL of the repository. Please enter http://repo.neonkoala.co.uk and tap on the "Add Source" button. Please wait for the repository to be installed.
• Then tap on the Search tab at the bottom right corner of Cydia and search for Bootlace.
• Tap on Bootlace from the search results and then tap on the "Install" button on the top right corner.
• Then tap the "Confirm" button. This will install Bootlace on your jailbroken iPhone.
• You should see a Bootlace icon on your iPhone’s home screen. Tap on it to launch the Bootlace app.
• You then need to install OpeniBoot from Bootlace.
• Once OpeniBoot has been installed, tap on the iDroid tab to install iDroid.
• Once iDroid has been installed on your iPhone, tap the QuickBoot tab again and then tap on the Android logo, your iPhone will now restart and boot into Android.

That’s it, you can checkout Android OS on your iPhone.
