If you watch videos frequently on your iPhone using the official YouTube app for iOS, you’ll be glad to found out about a new jailbreak tweak known as Cercube by iOS developer Majd Alfhaily.
The tweak brings a handful of new features to the app that will enhance your experience watching videos on YouTube. These features include:
- Download YouTube videos directly to your iOS device
- Enables background playback so that you can listen to a video’s audio while the app is in background
- Allows playing HD videos on mobile data
- Gets rid of all the ads
- Lets you watch age restricted videos
The tweak displays a blue download button below every video. When you tap on it, you can choose the resolution of the video to download. The maximum resolution that the tweak supports seems to be 720p as I never got the option to download a HD video in 1080p resolution. Once the download has been started, you should see a blue bar at the top of the screen indicating the download progress of the video.
A new tab called “Downloads” will be added to the app’s sidebar where you can watch the downloaded videos from YouTube, save them to Camera Roll or import them as an audio to your Music library.
You’ll also find a dedicated preferences pane in the Settings section of the YouTube app where you can enable or disable each of the features provided by the tweak.
Cercube is a handy tool for downloading videos to watch offline and will definitely come in handy if you’re a frequent user of the app. If you’re in to give this tweak a try, it can be purchased for $2.49 from Cydia’s BigBoss repo.
