Activator by Ryan Petrich has been one of our favorite jailbreak tweaks.
For those who’re new to jailbreaking, Activator lets you assign various actions that get called when a certain event, selected by you, occurs. The trigger can be a gesture, a tap on a specific area, the press of a button, a change of charging state or a bunch of other options. The “actions” list is equally diverse, letting you launch apps, toggle settings and is extensible via tweaks on Cydia. It’s a must-have tweak if you’re a power user.
Petrich has released a new jailbreak tweak called Actiwidget, which brings Activator actions to the Notification Center. It’s a simple yet powerful widget for Notification Center.
After installing the tweak, you need to enable Actiwidget in Notification Center via Settings app (Settings -> Notifications -> Actiwidget -> tap on the On/Off toggle to enable it).
By default, it adds shortcuts to access the Activator app, iPod controls, compose email and compose text message. However, you can configure the shortcuts using the Settings app (Settings -> Activator -> Menus -> Actiwidget) and add new actions for just about anything to Notification Center. You can also reorder the position of the shortcuts.
The cool thing about the tweak is that, unlike other custom widgets for Notification Center that add a limited number of shortcuts, without much control over them, Actiwidget allows you to add as many (action) shortcuts as you want to Notification Center. It’s a great way to extend the use of Activator if you’ve exhausted the gestures to activate Activator actions.
Another cool feature, is the ability to combine Activator actions, so you could do something like add a new action for iPod Controls and Play. When you tap on the shortcut in Notification Center, it will launch the Music app, take you to the Now Playing section and play the song.
It would be nice if Petrich can give us an option to assign a nick for the actions as currently text seem to take a lot of space.
Actiwidget is an awesome jailbreak tweak, which we think will make Activator appealing to a wider audience and not just power users. Actiwidget is available for free on Cydia. To install it, you need to add Ryan Petrich’s repo to Cydia using the following URL: http://rpetri.ch/repo/.
As always, let us know what you think of Actiwidget in the comments below.
