While Apple Pay is supported by hundreds of banks in the United States, the global expansion must continue as Apple tries to make its mobile payment option the default for many users.

Today, Apple Pay support from banks is expanding in a big way, including a variety of different options in different countries. First up is Italy, where the mobile payment option is now officially supported by American Express credit cards issued directly by the company. Meanwhile, in Ireland Apple Pay is now supported by the bank AIB, which is one of the biggest banking establishments in the country.

The other big expansions will be happening later this year. First, in Spain, Apple says the mobile payment option will expand to CaixaBank and the mobile-only banking service imaginBank. Visa will also be supporting Apple Pay in general in Spain before the end of 2017. And in France the mobile payment option will expand to Arkéa Banque Privée and Bankque BCP later this year. It will also be supported by the mobile-only banking options/payment solutions Lydia, N26, and Orange Bank in the region.

Finally, in the United Kingdom Apple Pay is supported by the mobile-only banking solution Starling Bank.

Apple Pay continues to gain support from banking establishments all over the globe, where Touch ID is the key factor to make the mobile payments an option at all. Which is worth mentioning considering there have been so many rumors regarding the oft-rumored iPhone 8 and the potential reality where Apple removes Touch ID from the handset. If they do go that route, it’s been suggested they will replace the security feature with facial recognition. Of course, we have also heard that Apple will simply delay the launch of the iPhone 8 to make sure they get Touch ID on the flagship handset.
