Even though iOS devices like the iPhone come with Bluetooth 4.0, it only supports a limited number of Bluetooth profiles.

So iPhone users still can’t transfer files between iOS devices or any other Bluetooth device, which is the most commonly requested application in the Bluetooth stack and has been available on feature phones.

Over the last few years, there have been a number of jailbreak tweaks such as Celeste, AirBlue Sharing that unlocked Bluetooth file sharing (OBEX Push) capability and allowed users to transfer files to any device via Bluetooth.

If you had purchased Celeste, then you probably remember it being quite buggy. CocoaNuts, the developers of Celeste want to change that perception. They have released a new version of Celeste on Cydia, called Celeste 2, which comes with a lot of improvements, and more importantly, seems to be a lot more reliable.

After you install Celeste 2, you will get a new Share with Celeste option with the Bluetooth icon in the sharing panel in a number of apps such as Photos, Notes, iPod/Music, iBooks, Contacts, Safari, Dropbox, DisplayRecorder etc, which makes it very easy to transfer the files to a Bluetooth device.

The tweak installs an app on your iPhone’s Home screen, which allows you to enable or disable couple of Settings. When “Show app on receive” is enabled it will automatically launch the app and show you to progress of an incoming file transfer. It also comes with a Notification Center widget to manage/control the file transfers, which needs to be enabled via the Settings app (Settings -> Notifications -> Celeste).

When “Import with Gremlin” is enabled, it will automatically import the audio and video files into the Music/Video apps on your iPhone.

Here’s our video walkthrough of the tweak in action:

As you can see it works quite seamlessly. Celeste 2 also makes use of the iOS Bluetooth stack, which will allow you to continue to stream music over Bluetooth while you’re transferring files.

Celeste 2 also works on iPad and iPod touch, and is compatible with iOS 6.0 or higher.

To celebrate the release of Celeste 2, CocoaNuts is offering it for $6.99 ($9.99) until September 15th for new customers. It’s a free update if you had purchased Celeste.

As always let us know how it goes in the comments below.
