How to Customize Push Notification Alert Tone For Each App Using PushTone [Jailbreak Tweak]

We continue to see jailbreak tweaks that enhance the iOS Push Notification system, which was completely revamped in iOS 5 with Notification Center.

One of the problems that still remains is that nearly all notifications make the same sound (barring a few apps where developers have taken the effort to assign a different tone for their app).

PushTone is a jailbreak tweak that allows you to customize the alert tone for each third-party app that supports Push Notifications and audible alerts (toggle to enable or disable Sounds). So you no longer need to glance at your iPhone to figure out you’ve received a notification for which app.

The other nice thing is that the jailbreak tweak integrates with iOS Notification options available in the Settings app. After installing PushTone, you will be able to set a custom alert tone (and even a ringtone) for a notification for each app via Settings -> Notifications -> <App> -> PushTone.

Note: As mentioned earlier, it does not support pre-install apps like Mail, Messages etc and third-party apps that don’t support Push Notification and audible alerts.

You can check out the video below to see how it works and how to customize the push notification alert tone for each tone:

PushTone is available on Cydia for $1.99.
