Facebook recently added auto-playing videos to its iOS app. These videos start playing when users encounter them in their news feed, but without sound.
You can’t turn off this feature completely but we tell you how you can disable it when you’re on a cellular network, so that you don’t unnecessarily burn through your usage quota.
- Open the Settings app
- Navigate to Facebook > Settings
- Tap on the On/Off toggle next to “Auto-play on WiFi only” under the Video section to turn it on.
That’s it. This should stop videos auto-playing when you’re on 4G or 3G. While these auto-playing videos, as of now, are simply the ones shared by your friends, it paves the way for video ads on your Facebook newsfeed, which could potentially be way more annoying.
