Facebook is rolling out some new features for Stories, profiles, and Pages, all with a focus on bringing more music to the mix.
Announced on Wednesday, Facebook has confirmed that it is bringing music Stickers to Stories. It works in the same way that it does for Instagram Stories, which launched earlier this year. Now you will be able to add a soundtrack to your shared Stories, and viewers will be able to tap on that sticker to find out more about the music you’re sharing.
Facebook is also bringing music Stickers to the standard News Feed as well. The music Sticker can be added to either a brand new photo or video you capture with the Facebook camera, or added to a photo or video that you share from your camera roll. Just click on the sticker button and add the music Sticker option, which will let you search for the song you want to add. You’ll be able to choose where in the photo, or when in the video you want to add the sticker, which will include the song name and artist.
Beyond that Facebook is also expanding its Lip Sync Live feature. Facebook says the feature is now available for “all profiles in many countries”, so the feature should be widely available at this point. It is also expanding to Pages now, so artists, both indie and not, can share their music via Stories. What’s more, the feature now includes lyrics, which definitely gives it a karaoke flare.
The selection at the start is pretty limited, though, with plans to expand:
“We’ve also heard feedback that people want to see the words to songs while lip syncing, so we’re starting to add lyrics to Lip Sync Live. Lyrics are starting to roll out today, and are available for songs including Dua Lipa’s “New Rules,” Khalid’s “Better,” and “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5. We’ll be adding more soon.”
Facebook is also adding a new songs section on your profile. This means you will be able to showcase what you’re currently listening to, or just add your favorite songs for people to listen to. You will be able to pin a song to the top of your profile, too. Like a pinned tweet on Twitter.
“Songs added to your profile will also visually showcase the artist and track you choose. When someone plays a song on your profile, they’ll hear a clip of the song and see an accompanying video featuring photos of the artists and album art. They can then choose to add the song to their own profile or visit the artist’s Facebook Page.”
These new features are rolling out starting today.
