Facebook released a minor update to its app yesterday that added the ability to edit posts on the iPad. But along with this new feature, Facebook seems to have introduced some bugs that is causing the app to crash on launch.
We’ve been able to reproduce the crash on an iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s, both running iOS 7.0.3, the latest version of iOS and on an iPad 3 running iOS 6.1.3. However, we’re getting reports that the older version of the app is working, and is not crashing. And there are several others on Twitter who are reporting the same issue.
If you’re on iOS 7, App Store may have automatically downloaded the new, bug-ridden update in the background.
Generally troubleshooting tips like killing the app or reinstalling it help fix crashes, but not in this case. The Facebook app crashes even when opened after a fresh install. So this seems to be an issue Facebook only can fix either via an update. Till then you can use the company’s Messenger app to chat with your friends, Facebook Page Manager to manage your Facebook pages, and Facebook Camera to share pictures.
Let us know if you’ve been facing the same issue with the app in the comments below.
Update: The issue seemed to be on Facebook’s backend, as the crashing problem appears to have been fixed.
