Facebook Messenger has made it possible for users to make calls over the Internet, to other Messenger users, for quite some time.

And now with the support of iOS 10 and CallKit, Messenger now supports bringing VoIP calls to CarPlay. iOS 10 allows third-party developers like Facebook to access the standard aesthetic from the stock Phone app for incoming calls, within their own apps, thanks to CallKit. And it looks like the social network is already taking advantage of the changes, and has implemented the feature for its calling feature.

To make it work, you’ll need to be running iOS 10 on your device, and have the latest version of Facebook Messenger installed on it.

Now when you receive a call from a Messenger contact, the prompt will look like a standard phone call, and also offer the same controls. You’ll be able to get reminded of the call, “Slide to Answer,” or in other options decline the call as well. The in-call options are available as well, including speaker phone, mute, access to the keypad, video, and even directly launch Messenger if needed.

This functionality extends to CarPlay as well. Messenger doesn’t have a proper CarPlay icon, nor does it support Siri through the in-car system, but this is a good place to start at least.
