Facebook is Redesigning the Mobile Apps to Boost Navigation and Communication

Earlier today, the Facebook-owned Instagram confirmed that it was overhauling its comment system to adopt a threaded organizational style.

And it turns out that the Facebook mobile apps will be getting an update, too, which is meant to “make News Feed more conversational and easier to read and navigate.” First and foremost, the big bold blue bar at the top of the mobile app will no longer be there (pictured above). And comments are getting streamlined, so users will be able to tell, just at a glance, when a comment is meant specifically for one user in a conversation. Facebook users will se a lot of gray bubbles in their comment sections, now.

“We’re always working to help people have more lively and expressive conversations on Facebook. More and more, comments have become the way to have conversations about a post with other people. We’ve updated our comment style and made it easier to see which comments are direct replies to another person.”

On top of that, Facebook wants the News Feed to be easier to read, so there will be more pronounced color contest in place. Link previews will be larger, too, making them easier to touch. And if you happen to love circular profile pictures, Facebook is adopting that methodology, too.

One final change is the addition of links themselves. Now, with the redesign, users will be able to see where a link is taking them before they launch it:

  • See where a link will take you before clicking on it
  • See whose post you’re commenting on, reacting to, or reading while you’re in the post
  • Return to News Feed once you’ve finished reading via a more prominent back button

As far as when the software will get updated, Facebook confirmed that the update will arrive in the coming weeks, but couldn’t provide an exact date just yet.

How often do you use the mobile Facebook app?
