Fix issues with Jailbreak Tweaks on iOS 7 by reinstalling Mobile Substrate

If you’re having trouble with your iOS 7 jailbreak, where none of your tweaks are working, try this simple tip for a solution.

Update:

This workaround is no longer required as saurik has released Mobile Substrate for iOS 7 and 64-bit A7 chip called Cydia Substrate. Check this post for more details.

The tweaks won’t show up in the Settings app, nor would they even work, and your device would seem as if it wasn’t jailbroken, except for the Cydia icon. The solution described works only with devices that don’t have a 64-bit A7 chip. That is, it won’t work for the iPhone 5s, the iPad Air nor the Retina iPad mini.

  • Open Cydia > Go to the Search tab
  • Type in “Substrate” in the search field at the top
  • The first two results should be “Mobile Substrate” and “Substrate Safe Mode.”

  • Go to Mobile Substrate, tap on Modify > Reinstall > Continue Queuing.
  • Now go back to the search results and tap on Substrate Safe Mode.
  • Tap on Modify > Reinstall > Confirm. This will reinstall both Mobile Substrate and Substrate Safe Mode.
  • After the installation is done, tap on Restart SpringBoard.

Once this is done, all your tweaks should be working again. Keep in mind that if you restart your phone, you’ll have to repeat this process again.

Here’s a video demoing the process:

Mobile Substrate still needs to be updated with a fix for a number of issues, including this one, but for now this seems like a good enough solution. There are a number of unofficial patches for Mobile Substrate that claim (and do) fix the issues with the existing version, but saurik has warned against installing those.
