If you’ve ever used the Gmail app on iPhone or iPad, you have probably seen the circular, rainbow loading indicator that is displayed when the service is fetching new mail or other tasks. But even if you haven’t, now you can. iOS developer Nick Papagiorgio has created a simple jailbreak tweak that extends the rainbow loading indicator systemwide on the iPhone. We’ve provided step-by-step instructions on how to install the package ahead.
Gmail Loading Indicator must be downloaded from this Dropbox page and manually installed via SSH using a program like iExplorer or iFunBox. If the package ever becomes available on Cydia, we will update this post to let you know. The installation steps are simple: place the file you just downloaded into the /Library/Themes directory and apply the theme with Winterboard. After respringing, the rainbow indicator should appear across iOS.
There are both small and large variants of the loading indicator, while the developer is working on adding it to the status bar and other places. Papagiorgio also notes that “there are limited frames to work with for the loading indicator,” in case you find the loading indicator to be less smooth than in the Gmail app. For those wondering, Bariol is the custom font used in the screenshots. The font is applied using the BytaFont 2 tweak.
Will you use this themed indicator on your iPhone?
