One of the frustrating limitations of iOS 8 is the inability to change Notification sound for third-party apps. A new jailbreak tweak aptly called CustomNotificationSound lets you do just that.

The tweak provides users with the ability to use any custom sound for third-party app notifications. The good thing is that it is integrated into the settings pane of each app making it easier to choose custom sounds on the go.

Once you install CustomNotificationSound, you can go the Settings app to set the custom sound for a third-party app. You’ll notice a new option labeled ‘Custom Sound’ right under Show in Notification Center. Tap on it and you’ll be be a able to select from a list of custom sounds that come preinstalled with the tweak.

You can also add custom sounds by going to /System/Library/Audio/UISounds and placing your own sounds over there. The tweak supports car, m4a, aif, mp4 and wav formats and requires all the sounds to be less than 30 seconds. Once you’ve added your sounds to the folder, you will then be able to see them under the ‘Custom Sound’ section of each app.

If there is an app with a default notification sound that you don’t like then you should definitely consider checking out CustomNotificationSound as it provides you with the ability to use your own custom sounds easily. The tweak works perfectly as advertised without any issues.

CustomNotificationSound is available as a free package on Cydia’s BigBoss repo and requires iOS 8 to be installed. Let us known what you think about the tweak once once you’ve given it a try.
