The new version of iBooks released yesterday includes a cool nighttime reading theme, which makes reading books in the dark easier on the eyes.
It would have been nice if there was a way to the enable this theme across apps such the Mail app, RSS reader app like Reeder etc.
Amit Agarwal over at Digital Inspiration has a neat tip to do exactly that. His tip enables night-reading mode in any app. It is not the same as the nighttime reading theme as the text using the theme is greyish whereas the text with this trick is white, but it is a neat workaround.
Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to enable the night mode on any app:
- Launch the Settings app
- Then go to General -> Accessibility -> Triple-click Home
- Here select Toggle White on Black from the list of options
That’s it. Now when you triple click the Home button in any app, it will invert the colors and display the text in white on a black background.
As Agarwal points out, the only downside of this trick is that it doesn’t work well with images as they look like photograph negatives. But it is not too much of an hassle as you can always switch back with triple click of the Home button if you want to see images.
As always, let us know what you think about this iPhone tip in the comments. If you’ve a jailbroken iOS device then checkout f.lux – a jailbreak app that adjusts the color of your iPhone’s display to better adapt to the time of the day.
