Text messaging has become one of the most reliable and commonplace forms of communication. With the ability to send emojis, voice messages, videos, and photos, texting is sometimes the best way to communicate with my friends and family. Given the fact that you can so easily send images and videos via text, we sometimes forget that those items take up space on our devices. Luckily those images can be removed from our devices without deleting the conversation they were in.

How to quickly delete multiple images in Messages

Whenever you send any type of attachment via Messages, it actually stays on your device by default. Since Messages is usually one of the most used applications on the iPhone, this leads to the app taking up a bunch of storage space on your device. You can delete individual attachments within any message, but there is a pretty easy way to clear up a ton of space by deleting attachment in bulk, should you need to.

Open the Messages app and head to a conversation that has an attachment. Tap Details in the top-right. In the Details page scroll down until you see Attachments. This section includes all the GIFs, Images, Videos that were sent throughout the lifetime of that particular conversation. Now, tap and hold if you have a device without 3D Touch. Place and hold your finger on an item. This will bring up the pop-up menu where you will select More.

When you tap on More you will now be able to select multiple images. Each image or item you select will have a blue checkmark in the bottom-left corner. Select as many images as you want to delete and hit the blue trash can icon. You will be asked to confirm the deletion of those selected items. Tap Delete Attachments and those items will be deleted from your phone and the conversation.

Your conversation will still be there, but the images will no longer appear. Of course, just because you deleted it on your end doesn’t mean it’s removed on the receivers side. They will see the images in the conversation and in their details until the remove the images on their end.
