The AirPower wireless charging mat was expected to be given a launch date and price tag earlier this month, but that didn’t end up happening.
But apparently even Apple was planning on the AirPower being out there in the wild right around now, too. Based on a tweet from developer Gavin Stephens, who shared an image from the user guide included with the iPhone XS (and presumably the iPhone XS Max), Apple notes that new owners can put their iPhone XS on the AirPower wireless charging mat or another Qi-certified wireless charger to give their device a bit more life.
But they definitely mention it in the new iPhone XS Max manual pic.twitter.com/qJO7kVc8bi

“Place iPhone with screen facing up on AirPower or a Qi-certified wireless charger. You can also use the Lightning connector to charge iPhone and connect accessories.”
As one might imagine, it must be pretty frustrating for the folks at Apple who were excited to get the AirPower out there in the wild. We don’t know anything officially as to why Apple has decided to go quiet on the accessory, but recent reports have suggested the device was plagued with overheating issues, among other problems, and was “doomed to failure”. Interestingly enough, Apple has also removed any direct reference to the AirPower charging mat from its website, too.
Hopefully something turns around on the AirPower here soon and we can actually buy the thing.
Are you looking forward to the AirPower anymore?
