If you have ever watched a video on your iPhone while rotation lock was enabled, it will be displayed only in portrait mode and not in landscape orientation. Otherwise you’ll have to launch Control Center and toggle off rotation lock in order to watch videos in landscape mode.
It can be quite annoying if you want to disable rotation lock and enable it again every time you want to watch a video on your iPhone. However, there is a way that your device enters landscape mode automatically as soon as you start watching a video and you can find out how to do it by following the guide below.
Step 1: Install AutoRotateVideos
If you’ve already jailbroken your iPhone, you can get rid of the rotation lock frustration by installing a new tweak known as AutoRotateVideos which provides a better experience watching videos on iPhone.
The tweak automatically turns your screen into landscape orientation whenever you want to watch a video, even when rotation lock is enabled. Once the video has been closed, the device will go back into portrait mode.
You can download it for free from Cydia.
Step 2: Configure the tweak
Once you’ve installed it, you’ll find a new preferences pane dedicated to the tweak in the Settings app. From there, you can enable or disable it whenever you want as well as choose whether you want the video to rotate in the right or the left direction or keep it as auto-detect.
After making the changes, there’s nothing much to do. Simply start watching a video and you’ll notice that your device is forced into landscape mode.
AutoRotateVideos is a useful tweak that no longer requires you to disable rotation lock every time you want to watch a video. The tweak doesn’t work with all the apps. For instance, it works with Safari but when I gave it a try on Whatsapp, it doesn’t work.
AutoRotateVideos can be downloaded for free via Cydia’s BigBoss repo. Let us know what you think about the tweak in the comments section below.
