The Phone app in iOS comes with a Favorites tab where you can add all your favorite contacts so that you can call them quickly. Now, a new jailbreak tweak known as QuickDial Lite goes a step further by providing a better and faster way of dialing your favorite contacts.

The tweak allows you to assign individual contacts to numeric keys on the keypad of the Phone app. When you tap and hold on a key that is assigned to a particular contact, it will automatically call him/her without requiring you to do it manually.

This is much faster than if you were to search for the contact manually or find them in the Favorites tab and initiate a phone call with them.

As you’d guess, the tweak allows you to assign contacts to 9 of the keypad keys from number 1 to number 9. Each of the keys can be assigned to a single phone number only.

After installing QuickDial Lite, head to its preferences pane in Settings and you’ll find 9 text fields, each corresponding to a keypad key of the Phone app. To assign a phone number to a specific key, simply tap on the its corresponding text field and type in the number.

For instance, if you want to assign a phone number to key #3, then tap on the text field that is labelled ‘Number 3’ and input the phone number. When you go to the Phone app and tap and hold on key #3, then it will automatically dial the phone number you just assigned to it. It’s as simple as this.

The idea behind this tweak is interesting and is something that should have been a stock feature of iOS. The only thing that I don’t like about this tweak is that you have to input the phone number manually. It doesn’t provide a way to choose a contact from your iPhone’s address book and assign it to a specific key. Other than this, it lives up to its promise.

QuickDial Lite is available as a free package on Cydia’s BigBoss repo. If you decide to give it a try, then let us know what you think about it in the comments below.
