This is interesting. As pointed out by 9to5Mac, Apple has quietly released a revised version of iOS 5.1.1.
The build number of the revision iOS 5.1.1 is 9B208, where as the build number of iOS 5.1.1 released last week was 9B206.
The revision iOS 5.1.1 is currently available only for GSM iPhone 4.
Apple hasn’t provided any details, but based on the build number change, it does suggest that it could include some minor bug fixes.
This is the second time that Apple has released a revised version of iOS, instead of releasing a new iOS software update. Apple had released a tweaked version of iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S to fix some SIM card related bugs.
The timing of the release is also quite interesting. pod2g and the Chronic Dev team have released Absinthe iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV few hours back.
It remains to be seen if the revised iOS 5.1.1 fixes the exploits used in the Absinthe 2.x.x jailbreak. We highly doubt it.
We’ll let you know as soon as we’ve an update, until then it may be a good idea to avoid updating your iPhone 4 with the revised iOS 5.1.1 software update.
If you don’t care about jailbreaking or unlocking then here’s the direct download link for GSM iPhone 4.
Update 1:
If you’ve accidentally upgraded to the revised iOS 5.1.1 Build 9B208 then download iOS 5.1.1 Build 9B206 from this download link to revert back until pod2g and team add support for this revised version to Absinthe 2.0.x. You will be able to revert as long as Apple continues to sign the older version.
