A bunch of tweaks have been released over the past six months which intend to bring back the more skeuomorphic design of iOS 6, and a new tweak from Ryan Petrich called VintageKeys can now be added to the list. The tweak allows you to swap out the default iOS 7 keyboard with a selection of others, including those from iOS 6.
Once you’ve downloaded the tweak, head over to the Settings app to set it up. You’ll find a section called “VintageKeys”, and within it you’ll see a list of every app you have installed. Sadly, the tweak doesn’t give you an option to change the keyboard device-wide; you’ll have to set each keyboard style change for each individual app.
But the tweak does more than just switch the iOS 7 keyboard with the iOS 6 keyboard. The available options within each app’s settings section includes both light and dark versions of both the current and legacy keyboards. This means that if you simply prefer the dark iOS 7 keyboard over the light one in all situations, you can use this tweak to make that switch–albeit one app at a time.
That’s basically all there is to this little tweak, but as goes with most of Ryan’s tweaks, it’s highly polished. I haven’t run into any bugs and the settings take effect without a respring. That said, the tweak’s description says that you’ll likely need to force-quit and relaunch apps after making a keyboard switch.
You can get this free tweak from Ryan Petrich’s repo, which can be added to your Cydia sources using the following URL:
