Adjusting the brightness level on your iPhone is as simple as launching Control Center and using the brightness slider. Now, a new jailbreak tweak dubbed as VolBright aims to make this task even simpler by turning it into a one-step process.

This new tweak takes advantage of the physical volume buttons on the side of your iPhone to adjust the brightness level. Normally, these buttons are used to change the ringer volume or the media volume of your iOS device. But with VolBright, you can now use the volume buttons to adjust either the volume of your device or the brightness level.

The tweak takes advantage of the mute switch on the side of your iPhone to determine whether the volume buttons should be used for controlling the brightness or the volume level. For instance, if the mute switch is off, the volume buttons can be used to adjust the brightness. Likewise, with the mute switch turned on, the buttons will instead control the volume of your device.

From the tweak’s configuration pane in Settings, you can select how the brightness control will be invoked, either when the mute switch is on or off. Additionally, the pane offers a kill switch toggle for enabling or disabling the tweak on demand.

In terms of convenience, I personally find the brightness slider in Control Center to be a better choice than what this tweak offers. The process is smoother and less confusing than if you were to flip the mute switch and use the volume buttons every time you want to change the brightness level.

The only place where I think this tweak comes in handy is mostly within games or when watching videos in full-screen as it’s less obtrusive to use the volume buttons than if you were to launch Control Center, which occupies a significant portion of your screen.

If you’re in to give this tweak a try, VolBright can be installed for free from Cydia’s BigBoss repo. Make sure to let us know what you think about it in the comments below.
