Apple today finally released the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the more premium and exclusive iPhone X. The three handsets might share the same internals but they do differ from each other in certain aspects.
After all, there is a reason why Apple is charging $999 for the iPhone X, with the other two iPhones carrying a lower price tag. Apple is not charging a premium just for the bezel-less OLED display. The iPhone X does come with a bunch of features that are not found on the other two iPhones. So, let’s see what exactly makes the iPhone X better than the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus below.
Design, Display, and Dimensions
- The three phones differ from each other primarily in terms of their design
- While all the three phones are made from glass, the iPhone X features a bezel-less edge-to-edge OLED display at the front
- The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, on the other hand, feature a front design similar to the iPhone 7 — right down to the capacitive Home button with an integrated Touch ID scanner
- The iPhone 8 features a 4.7-inch 750p display with 326 ppi, while the iPhone 8 Plus features a 5.5-inch 1080p display with 401 ppi

- The 5.8-inch OLED display on the iPhone X features Dolby Vision and HDR10 support
- The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus do not support either
- Thanks to the bezel-less design, the iPhone X is smaller than iPhone 8 Plus despite coming with a bigger display
- The iPhone X is 7.7 mm thick, 143.6 mm tall, and 70.9 mm wide
- The iPhone 8 is 7.3 mm thick, 138.4 mm tall, and 67.3 mm wide
- The iPhone 8 Plus is 7.5 mm thick, 158.4 mm tall, and 78.1 mm wide

- The 12MP telephoto lens on the iPhone X features OIS and an f/2.4 aperture

- The iPhone 8 offers the same battery life as the iPhone 7

Also, it looks like the SIM-free or unlocked iPhone X won’t be available at launch in the U.S, whereas you can buy a SIM-free or unlocked iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus when the pre-orders open on September 15. It is possible that the SIM free or unlocked iPhone X will be available when pre-orders open on October 27, but Apple usually delays the launch of the unlocked iPhone by a month in the U.S. Unlocked iPhone X would be available in other countries when pre-order opens.
