Earlier this month, Apple quietly launched its Smart Battery Case for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. Despite the iPhone X featuring almost the same design language as the iPhone XS, Apple says its Smart Battery Case for the iPhone XS is incompatible with it.
So what’s the truth? The iPhone XS Smart Battery Case is both compatible and incompatible with the iPhone X.
The iPhone XS case will fit and charge the iPhone X just fine, though one needs to make sure that there iPhone X is running iOS 12.1.3 for proper compatibility.
Due to minor design differences, the case will not perfectly align with the camera hump at the rear and will be slightly loose. It will also cover the bottom speaker/microphone grille located on the left of the iPhone X.
Considering there is a dearth of battery cases for the iPhone X, there’s not much of an option iPhone X owners have. Do note that using the Smart Battery Case with your iPhone X will make it extremely heavy. On the flip side, if you can live with this inconvenience, it will give your iPhone X’s battery life a boost by 50-75 percent.
Since the Smart Battery Case does not officially support the iPhone X, it is always possible that Apple will end up blocking support for it with a future software update.
