We’ve seen a number of jailbreak apps that have put some life into the static wallpapers on iPhone’s Home screen by either adding animations (LivePapers, vWallpaper) or make them scrolling (WS Wallpaper) .
LiveWallpaper is a new jailbreak tweak that is capable of doing both. It allows you to set scrolling wallpaper on the Home screen like you can on Android or add an animated wallpaper.
By default, the jailbreak tweak sets a scrolling wallpaper on your iPhone’s Home screen when you install it from Cydia. The scrolling effect is a lot more prominent if you’ve less number of Home screens pages.
You can set your own wallpaper by launching the LiveWallpaper app from the Home screen. It allows you to select any photo from the Camera roll or Photo stream as the wallpaper.
It opens the image in a split view (which serves as a reference) and gives you the option to customize it. For example: you can make it bigger, smaller or select just a portion of the image as your scrolling wallpaper by simply dragging the outer frame.
Once you’ve selected it, click on the “Done” button. It will process the image and set the image as a scrolling wallpaper on your iPhone’s Home screen. This feature seems to work exactly like the WS Wallpaper jailbreak tweak we’ve covered earlier.
It also allows you to add an animated wallpaper, which you can see in the brief demo below. You need to install the like the Sakura LiveWallpaper theme from Cydia to add the animated wallpaper. After installing the theme, launch the LiveWallpaper app and tap on the second option. Then tap on the use button at the top right corner to set Falling Sakura as the animated wallpaper. Tap on the Home button to exit the app and you see the animated wallpaper. Update: As reader Itsyaboy has pointed out, this animated wallpaper is also interactive, so you can change the direction of the falling Sakuras by tapping on the screen.
Unfortunately, at the moment the Sakura LiveWallpaper is the only animated wallpaper available for the tweak (note: you may see few more themes that have Live Wallpaper in their names, but they don’t work with the tweak).
You can check out the brief demo of the jailbreak tweak in action below:
While Live Wallpaper is great if you want to set a scrolling wallpaper, LivePapers still seems like the best option if you want to add a animated wallpaper.
LiveWallpaper by DDT is available for free on Cydia. You can click on the download link below if you’re on a jailbroken iOS device to install LiveWallpaper.
