If you’re a regular iMessage user, you know that the Messages app shows an indicator if the person on the other end is currently typing. If you’re like me, you probably eagerly wait for the person to finish typing so that you can read the message right away.
If you find the idea of making your friends experience the same anxiety, then you can play this funny prank on them, where you send an animated gif of the typing indicator, fooling them into believing that you’re actually typing a message.
Here’s how you do it:
- Save this image to your Camera Roll by long tapping on it and pressing “Save Image.” Note: There seems to be some issue saving the image when you visit the site as a Home screen web app, so if you’ve problems saving the image visit this link using Safari and save the image.
- Open the iMessage compose window, tap the camera icon and select the image you just saved
- Enter the names, numbers or iMessage IDs of the people you want to send this message to, and hit send.
Here’s a video to show you how it works:
This trick would work perfectly when you’re already in the middle of a conversation, but even if you send the image otherwise, it might confuse the receiver for a few seconds.

Update:
Reader inu has a much better way (pure evil) to grab someone’s attention. He says before sending the image file, send this message “I have something very important to tell you.”
