As expected, Apple has upgraded the camera in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, now going with a 12MP iSight camera.
On September 9, Apple officially introduced the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus and a 12MP camera. Apple said that they’d been working on improving the camera and expanding the megapixel count, but would only do so if the quality did not slip. And, based on the images that Apple showcased on stage, that goal was met.
The iSight camera sensor features 50% more pixels and 50% more autofocus pixels. Deep Trench Isolation is included, too, making colors even more precise in the finalized image. Apple says the new camera “nails” exposure and accuracy.
The new 12MP camera can also shoot 4K videos, with 8 million pixels.
The True Tone flash is still present, matching the ambient light. And Apple will be using the Retina display on an iPhone to match the ambient light for flashes for selfies.
Auto HDR and Burst Mode is present as well.
With Live Photos, users will be able to select a photo and use 3D Touch to activate certain elements of the image. Apple showed a photo of a mountain settled in water, and using 3D Touch activated the water to start rippling. Sounds can be introduced, too. Live Photos will be getting Facebook support, too.
