Apple unveiled the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus at its special event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on September 9.
In this post, we compare the specs and features of Apple’s ninth generation iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone 6s with the seventh generation iPhone 5s.
iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus come with a number of new features and improvements such as a major update to both the front-facing FaceTime and rear-facing iSight camera, faster A9 chip with 2GB RAM, next generation Force Touch technology called 3D touch and more.

Please note that there are still some unknowns about the iPhone 6 like the number of cores in the A9 chip and the RAM. We’ll likely know these once the devices undergo a teardown or are benchmarked.
If you’re thinking of upgrading from the iPhone 5s, both the iPhone 6s as well as the iPhone 6s Plus will be a major upgrade for three following reasons: Bigger and better display, better cameras, improved performance, longer battery life, features such as Apple Pay and 3D Touch.
Bigger Display
iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus come with bigger and better Retina HD display. iPhone 6s Plus comes with a 5.5-inch screen and iPhone 6s comes with a 4.7-inch screen compared to the iPhone 5s’ 4-inch Retina (not HD) display, which will improve your viewing experience while watching Netflix or YouTube, the extra space will make it typing modestly easier and faster, and in the case of Maps it will mean less swiping and panning.
Better Cameras
iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus also come with significantly improved front and rear facing cameras compared to the iPhone 5s. If you’re someone who uses iPhone’s camera then the camera improvements alone should make the new iPhones a worthwhile upgrade.
Improved Performance
The new iPhones are powered by Apple’s new A9 chip, which is significantly faster and power efficient than the A7 chip that powers iPhone 5s. The new iPhones also come with 2GB RAM. The frequent reloading of web pages in Safari and refreshing apps was one of my biggest gripes about the iPhone 5s which comes with just 1GB RAM. iPhone 6s and 6s Plus with twice the RAM should alleviate that issue to some extent.
Longer Battery Life
As you can see in the comparison table, thanks to the bigger size of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, the new iPhones, especially the iPhone 6s Plus offer significantly improved battery life.
Other improvements and features
You also get to get to use features like Apple Pay, Apple’s NFC-based mobile payment solution, 3D Touch – the next generation Force Touch technology which can differentiate between three levels of pressure: a tap, a press and a deep press, which will completely transform how you use your iPhone, especially if you’re a power user.
