Apple today announced macOS 12 Monterey at its WWDC 2021 event. macOS Monterey builds on macOS Big Sur to bring features, improvements, and refinements to macOS operating system.
Along with iOS 15, Apple unveiled macOS 12 Monterey today. The new operating system for Mac brings many new features like using your iPad and Mac like a single device using Universal Control, FaceTime improvements like sharing video call links, SharePlay for watching movies and TV shows together, and more.
macOS Monterey Features
Universal Control
You can now use your iPad and Mac-like one device. Your Mac ‘knows’ when your iPad is around. When both of the devices are in the vicinity, you can use both the devices without any boundaries. You can share cursor across both the devices, drag and drop photos from iPad to Mac, and do more.

FaceTime Improvements
Just like iOS 15, macOS Monterey comes with the new FaceTime improvements. To make the video calling experience better, FaceTime is getting a portrait mode as well, which will blur the background. You can also share links of your FaceTime calls to Android and Windows users — they can join in via FaceTime for the web. There is also a new FaceTime feature that focuses the microphone to your voice so that there is no noise in FaceTime calls.
Redesigned Safari with Tab Groups
Apple announced a new redesigned Safari with macOS Monterey. The new redesigned Safari is also available on iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 which also brings Safari Extension support to iOS operating system for the first time. The new Safari design has a new tab layout. There’s also a new collections section called Tab Group in the side left bar, where you can add websites to read later, save websites, and do more.
Shortcuts for Mac
macOS Monterey brings Shortcuts to Mac for the first time. Apple says Shortcuts will eventually replace Automator apps on the Mac, and you can start importing Automator files to the Mac from day one. Shortcuts for Mac opens up a whole new world of possibility to the Mac.
