Now that the Home button in iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus has been replaced with a new pressure sensitive button powered by Taptic Engine, you may be wondering how you can take a screenshot on your new iPhone.
The new Home button is capacitive that gives you the feeling and impression of a real Home button, thanks to the built-in Taptic Engine. But it also means that the method used to enter DFU mode or perform a Hard Reset will be different.
But what about taking a screenshot? The method is actually similar to how you’d take a screenshot on older iPhone models.
How to Take a Screenshot on iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus
Step 1: Press the Sleep/Wake or Power button on your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus.
Step 2: At the same time, press the Home button.
Step 3: Your iPhone screen will blink once and a shutter sound will be played (if your iPhone isn’t on mute) to acknowledge that a screenshot has been taken and saved to your device.
If you fail to press the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time then your iPhone will accidentally invoke other actions such as Siri or lock your device. So make sure that you press them simultaneously.
How to Take a Screenshot with Assistive Touch
If you don’t want to go through the hassle of pressing Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together, then you can use Assistive Touch to take a screenshot with a single hand.
Step 1: The first thing to do is to enable Assistive Touch. Open the Settings app and go to General -> Accessibility -> Assistive Touch.
Step 2: Turn on the toggle for Assistive Touch.
Step 3: On the same screen, you’ll find an option labelled “Customize Top Level Menu”. Tap on it to open.
Step 4: Tap on the Custom button indicated by a star icon and then choose Screenshot from the list.
Step 5: With the screenshot option added to your Assistive Touch menu, you can take a one-handed screenshot anytime by tapping on the Assistive Touch button followed by the screenshot button.
How to View and Share a Saved Screenshot
Step 1: Open the Photos app.
Step 2: Go to the Albums tab and open the Screenshots album.
Step 3: Scroll to the end of the album and you should find the saved screenshot. Tap on it to open.
Step 4: Press the share icon in the bottom left corner, indicated by an upwards arrow icon, to share the screenshot with third-party apps.
That’s all you need to do to take a screenshot on your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus. As you can see, the method is similar to past iPhone models.
The reason DFU mode and Hard Reset methods are different is because if your iPhone stops functioning or freezes, then the new Home button will not detect any presses, which is why Apple has replaced their gestures. But taking a screenshot requires your device to be working and this means that the Home button will be functioning and can be used for taking a screenshot.
