Last week, Pangu Team had announced that they were planning to release a jailbreak for Apple TV 4 next week, shortly after surprising by releasing an untethered jailbreak tool for iOS 9.1.
If you’re eagerly waiting for the jailbreak, then we have an update. Pangu Team has tweeted that they will still need a few days to release the Apple TV 4 jailbreak.
Sorry that we still need few more days to test the ATV4 jailbreak. We will release an IPA which u need to sign it yourself to put it on ATV.

They’ve also said that they will be releasing an IPA which needs to be signed to install in on Apple TV 4.
The jailbreak will only provide SSH access with no GUI-based features and is mainly aimed at jailbreak developers and security researchers. With that said, this should still be considered as a good news as it opens the door for new modifications and improvements to the Apple TV. For instance, jailbreak developers could provide a way for users to theme the interface of Apple TV apart from enjoying new features.
If your Apple TV has already been updated to tvOS 9.1 or 9.1.1 then you’re out of luck because the new Pangu jailbreak will support only those Apple TVs that are running tvOS 9.0 or 9.0.1. Unfortunately, just like iOS, you can’t downgrade to an older version of tvOS. It also won’t be compatible with the older Apple TVs such as Apple TV 2 or Apple TV 3.
If you’re not sure which tvOS version your Apple TV is running then simply launch the Settings app, and navigate to General > About. If you’re planning to buy a new Apple TV 4 to jailbreak it, then you should look for a device which was manufactured before December 2015, as tvOS 9.1 was released on December 8th.
An Apple TV jailbreak will be a big deal as it has been a while since a jailbreak tool has been released for it. We can’t wait to see what kind of tweaks will be released to enhance Apple TV 4.
