Yesterday, Apple released iOS 6.1.3 to fix the Lock screen bug and bring improvements to Maps app for Japanese users.
So what does the iOS 6.1.3 update mean for jailbreakers?
iOS 6.1.3 Kills Evasion
As we told you yesterday, Apple has fixed 4 security flaws used by the evasi0n, so you won’t be able to jailbreak your device on iOS 6.1.3 with evasi0n.
Do Not Update:
As we had mentioned earlier, if you update your iOS device to iOS 6.1.3, you won’t be able to jailbreak your device if it’s an iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad mini and iPod Touch 5G. If you’ve an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and/or iPod touch 4G then you have the option to jailbreak your device on iOS 6.1.3 with Redsn0w (check out this tutorial), but it will be a tethered jailbreak. It means that you will have to tethered boot your device each time you reboot your device to use jailbreak apps like Cydia.
Saved SHSH Blobs:
While we keep telling you to save SHSH blobs every time Apple releases an iOS update using TinyUmbrella, we must point out that they’re useless currently (except for Redsn0w’s re-restore functionality for iOS 5.x) as there is no way to downgrade your iOS device from iOS 6.1.3. Apple made changes to prevent this in iOS 6 and hackers haven’t been able to figure out a way to downgrade.
You also won’t be able to restore to iOS 6.x.x if you have the SHSH blobs.
But having said that, it is still prudent to take a backup of the SHSH blobs (you don’t need to if you’ve jailbroken your iOS device as Cydia will cache them automatically), as it could be useful in the future.
What does it mean?
The lack of a jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 for newer devices means that you should be very careful while installing jailbreak tweaks as a bad tweak could easily force you to restore your device, which would mean that you will lose the jailbreak and all the tweaks installed on your device. iOS 6.1.3 Jailbreak:
David Wang aka planetbeing of evad3rs had said that they’ve discovered enough bugs to nearly build a new iOS jailbreak if all the bugs they used in evasi0n are fixed, but neither he or pod2g have commented after iOS 6.1.3 was released yesterday so let’s hope they’re busy working on it.
evasi0n was a combination of five different security flaws, most of them harmless individually, but together capable enough to jailbreak iOS 6.x.x. So Apple has certainly made things a lot more difficult for them by fixing 4 out of the 5 security flaws.
At this point it is anybody’s guess if and when they will release an updated version of evasi0n that can jailbreak iOS 6.1.3.
